Celestial Navigation Vancouver Power Squadron
Vancouver Squadron

CN applies the sciences of cartography and astronomy to set course and determine position while at sea. Emphasis is placed on "how" to navigate. The course employs both the use of the sextant and electronic navigation. You will learn sight reduction methods by formula and the scientific calculator; use of the Nautical Almanac; Pilot and Great Circle charts; the Star Finder and much more. Field work will include sight taking and star/planet identification. Course lasts approximately one year.

This course replaces both Junior Navigator and Navigator courses previously offered.
